After the initial vigorous reaction, a further 6 ml. of sulphuric acid wasadded. After 2 hours the resulting N-(1-methylcycloheptyl)-2-phthalimidoacetamide was isolated by pouring into water; it was collected, washed and dried before crystallisation frombenzene; it was obtained as a colourless crystalline solid, m.p. 190° C.
