After addition of 100 mL of water, the solution was extracted with hexane. The organic layer was washed with aqueous Na2S2O3 solution (30 mL) and water, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated. The crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (elution with hexane) to afford 6 g of 2-hexyl-5-iodofuran (76%) as a pale brownish oil. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ6.37 (d, J=3.14 Hz, 1H), 5.88 (d, J=3.16 Hz, 1H), 2.60 (t, J=7.56, 7.56 Hz, 2H), 1.58 (td, J=15.11, 7.66, 7.66 Hz, 2H), 1.24-1.39 (m, 6H), 0.86 (t, J=6.77, 6.77 Hz, 3H) ppm. 13C NMR (75 MHz, CDCl3): δ 162.3, 120.6, 108.0, 84.3, 31.6, 28.8, 28.3, 27.8, 22.6, 14.1 ppm.
