Chem. 141 5-43 (1934) was added to a suspension of sodium hydride (1.14 g 50% oil dispersion) in dimethylformamide and heated at 50° C. for 1 hour, cooled, methyl iodide added (1.63 ml. 1.1 eq) and the mixture heated at 50° C. The dimethylformamide was removed under reduced pressure and the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate and brine. The organic extract was washed with water, dried (MgSO4), evaporated to dryness and the crystalline residue crystallised from ethyl acetate-light petroleum (40°-60° C.) to give the title compound as white prisms m.p. 214°-215° C.
