The reaction mixture was refluxed for 16 hours. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 9.18 g of a yellow solid which became a hard, glass-like material. The crude product was recrystallized from methylene chloride and isooctane yielding 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)-2-tert-butylaminothiazole (0.226 g, 51%) as a yellow crystalline plates: mp 250°-253° C.; 1HNMR (DMSO d6) 400 mHz 7.78 (d, J=8.32 Hz, 2 H), 7.70 (s, 1 H), 7.46-7.35 (m, 4 H), 7.15 (t, J=9.05 Hz, 2 H), 3.19 (s, 3 H), 1.40 (s, 9 H); MS m/z 405 (M+H).
